New Republic Destroyer

The Republic-class Destroyer was Walex Blissex's follow-up design to his classic Victory Star Destroyer. The Republic Destroyer, although smaller than his daughter's Imperial-class design, still retains the Blissex's trademark efficiency. Walex also corridinated his work with several top Calamarian designers, resulting in a stunning mix of the classic wedge-shape design and the organic-like bumps of the Mon Cal cruisers.

Two Republic Destroyers can be produced for about the cost of an Imperial Star Destroyer, with only about one-fifth the crew complement and 20 percent more firepower than the standard Imperial model. Although still outmatched in terms of raw firepower by the later Imperial II-V models, the Republic Destroyer can hold its own against any Star Destroyer, heavy cruiser, or host of smaller ships.

Republic Destroyers have had a growing presence within the Alliance Fleet. They first saw combat action against the Yevetha and were later used in some areas to halt the Yuuzhan Vong advance into the galaxy. Although production dwindled slightly during the Empire's resurgence, the Republic Destroyers are once again providing a major and valuable resource to the Alliance Naval Fleet.
